I
was drafted into the United States Army on Ponce De Leon Avenue
in Atlanta, Georgia on February 20, of 1968. I was twenty years
old at the time. I went through basic training at Ft. Benning
in Columbus, Georgia and then to Ft. McClelland, Alabama for
Advanced Infantry Training. By that time, I knew I was headed
for the conflict in Southeast Asia in a small country called
'Vietnam." I landed in Vietnam on a bright yellow and red Brannif
jet airplane on July 21, 1968. My first impression? The 120*
heat that knocked me off my feet and a song playing in the background
on a loudspeaker, "Gooooood Morning, Vietnam!" |
